Who We Are

Our Values, Intentions and Responsibilities

Zaagidwin Ndaknaan is a nonprofit Indigenous-led organization dedicated to ensuring that sexual and reproductive health and care is provided with dignity, safety, and cultural alignment. Our commitments focus on honouring customary practices and providing a nurturing environment for welcoming new life from the star world.

Our core activities are to: 1) serve as a focal point for Nipissing First Nation with respect to child and maternal health; 2) function as Centre of Indigenous Midwifery Excellence; 3) provide advocacy, education, and support as Indigenous midwives and learners; and 4) be active members of the research community.

Equity for All

Zaagidwin Ndaknaan is deeply committed to the

equality and equity of Indigenous women, youth,

children, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members.

As an Indigenous organization and as Indigenous midwives, we take our responsibilities for addressing systemic disparities and historical traumas seriously.

We recognize the unique challenges faced by

Indigenous Peoples when accessing quality healthcare, including culturally aligned maternal care.

We are committed to advancing policies and practices that prioritize the health and well-being of all community members, and to centering their voices and experiences in decision-making processes.

Collectively, we work towards a future where all individuals are able to receive the care and support

they need to thrive with dignity and respect.
